Beat Your Email Obsession

Spread the love

Do you struggle with managing your time?

You’re not alone. A lot of people ask me why they have such a hard time getting things done.

And when they explain their situation, I realize the issue is with getting distracted.

Which in our world of instant notifications and buzzes, dings or beeps going off on our various gadgets – is an easy thing to do.

It’s even hard to have a conversation anymore without getting interrupted or feeling like you need to check your email every few minutes.

I hate that feeling of being “compelled” or “addicted” to my messages – so I knew I had to make a change.

In today’s video I tell you about three ways I’m committing to fight this annoying obsession.

Once you check them out, don’t leave without letting me know which one of the three tips you’re gonna do too. Because insight means nothing without action…and I know you’re a do-er.

Alrighty sweet friend. Need I tell you how awesome you are? Okay. You’re awesome. Thanks as always for your positive energy down in the comments and for spreading the simplification love.

I’ll “see” you again next week!

Until then, play simple and live happy,
Xoxo,
Mridu

Personally I don’t have problems with email obsession. In addition to batching your emails, unsubscribing from topics that no longer interest you and turning off notifications, I set aside a specific time period each day for checking or responding to my emails. For me those time periods are 15 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at night. After I take care of the important things I am free to follow my interests. Primary, Social, Updates, Forums are my email groups. In the mornings Primary is checked first, followed by social then I’m out the door for work. Updates and Forums have to wait until evening. Have trouble sticking to a specific time frame? Then set an alarm clock or timer that buzzes for the amount of time you want to spend on emails. Catch the remainder later or never. Don’t get distracted by links in emails during that 15 minute speed session. Gather important information, later you can surf the net…if you have time.

Starting to unsubscribe from junk mail instead of just deleting. Also be sure to use Paper Karma (free app) to unsubscribe from mail catalogs, etc. and save a tree!!

Completely agree with your post. In fact I’m passing on to all of my coworkers and nurses. It is incredible how much time we all waste in email.

You are SO on course with my thoughts this week! I was just thinking this morning how I SERIOUSLY need to unsubscribe to several e-mails I am receiving-but even so…I’m going to turn off my notifications. I can do that quickly. Then I plan to make a list over the next 3 days of the e-mails I need to unsubscribe to the. Do them all at once.
Thank you for all you do for us!

These tips are right on. I am always striving to be better at this. I am in the process of doing another round of ‘unsubscribes’ right now. If only the companies who send out this junk email would only honor them. I’m amazed at how many unsubscribe requests I have made where the sender ignores them and continues to send me junk. Ugh!

Carolyn, can you please be my email coach??!! πŸ™‚ What you’re describing is exactly what I strive for. I’m getting there…but I still can’t seem to get myself to only check email twice daily. But I know it’s super effective and I’m doing my best to get there. Thanks so much for sharing. You are seriously an inspiration!! xoxo, m

Awesome…on both things. Great feeling to unsubscribe AND I love PaperKarma too! Thanks for sharing Natasha! xo, mridu

You know, I’ve thought the same thing. Like, didn’t I already unsubscribe to this a month ago?? I swear there are laws against that. πŸ˜‰ Anyway, so thrilled you’re sticking with it and unsubscribing away – and getting back control of your time. Thanks for sharing!! xo, mridu

I am guilty of checking emails when my phone dings. I am going to shut off the notifications and I like Carolyn’s idea of setting aside a specific amount of time for emails
