Why I Was So Scared…

Spread the love

Change is hard, isn’t it?

You have to do things differently, think differently, maybe even act differently.

I made a big change.

In case you missed it last week, I’ll be sending out my videos every other week, (instead of weekly).

I have to admit, it was a big leap for me and I was kind of scared. Ok, really scared.

I was worried people would think I let them down.

Instead I’ve received nothing but support and excitement for what’s to come. (Thank you for that!)

I work with a lot of clients on creating, and committing to, priorities. We go through exercises about what’s most important in their lives right now and what they need to do to focus on them.

So as I’ve been feeling overwhelmed lately, I did this very exercise with my own life and biz.

One of my priorities was to give you more value. That’s part was easy. I have tons of ideas brewing. 😉

But in order to do it (really well), I needed more time and resources. I couldn’t add more hours to my day sooooo…something else had to go.

Gulp.

That’s where the hard part comes in. Figuring out what to let go of.

Sometimes it’s an easy decision. You recognize you spend time on an area that’s not at all aligned with your current priorities.

But other times it’s harder.

And it feels like whatever you give up – isn’t right.

But here’s what I’ve realized.

It’s really all just a negotiation.

You let go a little (or a lot) in one area, so you can be better in another.

When you cram too much in your life, simply trying to “do it all” – nothing gets done with the care and attention it deserves.

With the success that you’re capable of.

I’ve realized it’s not about giving up, but about shifting emphasis.

And when that shift is intentional and purposeful, you take greater comfort in your decision.

And your supportive family and friends will understand too. (Just like you have!)

So here’s my challenge for you this week:

  • What’s something in your schedule you can let go of, so you can give yourself more fully somewhere else?

I’d loooove to join you in a conversation, so puh-lease leave me comment below.

To living with purpose and clarity!

Okay! I gave up my game of Frozen! It is embarrassing to even admit it. I was getting addicted so I deleted it from my phone. What else? I need more time to read. Will look into my week and figure out what else needs to go.

Mridu

Charu, don’t be embarrassed. I had to delete Word Scramble from my phone bc I was so addicted too! LOL! Thanks for sharing. I’m betting many people are dealing with the same issue. 🙂 And ahhhh, more time for reading. How awesome! xo, mridu

I gave up doing another antique show of a friend of mine, so I can concentrate on my family, house, and get ready for the holidays.

I love your article, Mridu! Timely for me and I love that you said it is shifting emphasis with thoughtfulness and on purpose. I am going thru similar things telling my clients that I need to focus on certain areas and trying to stay out of certain other areas as I don’t have the bandwidth. Even that means giving up revenue. In the past, I would take the request but spend a lot of time researching something I am less familiar with but the benefit of that is that I have learned a lot while revenue was nothing compared to the time I spent. That is how my home and office is so disorganized 🙂 I will build partnerships or relationships with my peers so that I can refer business to them. How good is that? So I am letting go of revenue!
LOL that some are giving up playing games on phone. I wished I can give up watching You-Tube videos on organizing!

I shift my emphasis to exercising more instead of sitting for hours at a time “glued” to the computer or sitting around. My plan is to set a timer for 20 minutes—get up and stretch, exercise a little or a lot, take a walk – or at least move. As far as computer games, I gave those up a few years ago—too addictive even when I tried to limit my time on them – 5 minutes became 10, then 20, then over an hour.

I bet it wasn’t an easy choice Dyan, but one that you feel good about. Way to stick to your current priorities (and remember, they’re always changing!) Thanks so much for sharing friend. xo, m

I’ve toned down my Facebook usage greatly. Before I was spending way too much time on it. I was checking it 6 to 8 times everyday plus the time reading, commenting, or liking. I unfriended everyone and now only follow a handful of my favorite sites.(you,of course, and Peter Welsh), Now I check it once a day. Guess what? my family and friends still love me!

Sounds like you’ve been very intentional with your change Tiffany. That’s so encouraging…and motivating. Thank you so much for sharing your story. xo, mridu P.S – don’t give up on watching MY organization videos. 😉

Janet, that’s a fantastic shift. And a great plan to do it too. Appreciate the inspiration! xo, m

I’ve cut back on checking my emails to once a day. I’m now taking up to 2 weeks to read a book since I limit reading time to 15-30 minutes each day. I’ve been taking some online classes and started some stretching exercises on my own. I’m putting in a hour or so each day into working on completing unfinished craft projects with the extra acquired time.

These are such amazing shifts Carolyn! Sounds like you’re taking total control of your time and health. So inspiring! Thank you!xo,m
