Top of the list Monday morning: ** Buy software
Bottom of the list Monday evening: ** Buy software

And so it went on for a couple of weeks.
Every day on top of the to-do list. Every night still sitting at the bottom.
Know what I had to do to “buy software”?
Go to the checkout page, enter my credit card info…and press BUY.
Yeah, not days of researching…or hours of work.
But probably 3 minutes of clickety-clack. And I was procrastinating for weeks.
Don’t you hate when that happens?!
Total laziness.
Or is it…?
Wanna know a common reason we don’t move forward on those easy peasy tasks?
We’re scared of the bigger implications they might have.
**Does finally buying the software mean I have to spend time on actually learning how to use it in my business? Perhaps.
**Does finally sending the email mean you might get a response you don’t feel like dealing with? Could be.
**Does finally making the return mean you might spend 20 minutes parking and 15 minutes standing in line? It’s possible.
**Does finally signing the agreement mean you’d need to start working on the project? It’s likely.
It’s often not the task itself that makes us procrastinate but it’s the consequences or next actions of that task that keeps it on the bottom of our list.
Good news is that you’re not lazy. Actually, this is GREAT news. I’ve seen too many awesome people beat themselves up for procrastinating thinking “what’s wrong with me?!”
Bad news is you that might have fear around what’s next.
At least now you know why you’re really putting some things off.
And that’s half the battle.
Identifying the real reason you procrastinate puts the kibosh on your inner critic. Plus it helps clarify what you really need to be thinking about…the next step.
So is there something you’re putting off because you’re scared of what’s lurking around the corner after you finally do it?
– Returning that call
– Making the Dr’s appointment
– Reviewing your finances
– Having the conversation
– Hiring the assistant
Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you (and will write back).
I promise you’re not lazy. You’ve just got a case of the next step worries. It happens to good people.
Sending you lots of love and anti-procrastination mojo,
Xo,
Mridu
ps – I bought the software. I’m using the software. I’m loving the software. And now I’m like, “why did I wait so long!?”
