Why Control Freaks Like Us Bottom Out

Let me guess.

You set excessively high goals for yourself.

When you fail to reach a goal, you wallow in major self-doubt and worry about measuring up.

AmIright? If so, “control freak” hits home with you too.

If you want something right, you’re just gonna have to do it yourself.

Makes sense really.

You want to write the email, buy the gift, make the drive, create the graphic, request the information, book the travel, get the account, prepare the documents, make the decisions, invite the guests and everything else that only you can do just so.

There is certainly no way anything will fall through the cracks, right?

You go control freak (AKA: Perfectionist). You go!

On the other hand, you choose to not start projects at all. Because success isn’t satisfying when you put something out in the world, but you know it could have been better. Instead, you’ll wait for the perfect time.

When you can make it 100% flawless.

Which may not be for a month.

Or a year.

Or until whenever the time and circumstances are just right.

So how’s that working out for you?

Being a perfectionist myself, I live front and center with these daily challenges.

Over many years (and lots of heartaches) I’ve learned my perfectionist ways kept me back from THE most rewarding and successful events and experiences of my life.

Truth is, there will never be the “perfect time” and your work will never be 100% flawless.

The sooner you’re able to accept that, the better off you’ll be.

But to say “I will let go” isn’t enough.

There are mindsets and habits behind your behaviors that need to be adjusted.

How and where you choose to spend your time and energy will be the determining factor of the type of life you lead.

If you want to feel accomplished and joyful each and every day, you have to learn the tools to get you on that trajectory. I’m gonna say it like it is.

When you own your results, you own your life. If your own traits are preventing you from the results you know you’re capable of, I’d love to help – you gotta meet me halfway though.

To getting more of the right things done!
