I bumped into a friend after almost a year. Which was quite exciting since Costco’s been our social highlight for eight months.
While I was hoping she didn’t notice my Covid six (er…maybe seven) pounds, she looked amazing.
“Wow! How’d you get into such great shape?”
“Well,…I’ll tell you exactly what I did.”
OMG, I was about to learn the secrets of a fat-burning goddess.
I wish I had my coveted leather-bound notebook so I could take copious notes.
I didn’t want to lose a word of her profound strategies to drop pounds and inches during this challenging time.
And then she laid it out, step-by-step, staggering detail after another.
“I cut down on carbs, drank less wine, and started working out.”
“Oh.”
What about the latest suction technology, ketosis diet plan, and kettlebell regiment!? This was not the mind-bending information I was hoping for.
In fact, I felt like I heard this advice somewhere before.
Somewhere familiar. Where was it? …oh wait, I remember.
Everywhere!
It was the advice I’d heard for two decades. Not exactly rocket science.
I feel the same way when amazing managers, executives, coaches, consultants, educators, parents, and business owners want to get control of their day.
The key to being the boss of your time and energy is…
Wait for it…
Plan ahead, use boundaries, and create systems.
You’ve probably heard it before. Not rocket science.
It’s sage old advice that works. Even when you’re combatting emails, texts, rings, dings, chirps, beeps, and countless other distractions.
It goes a little something like this:
Plan ahead. Pick your priorities. Determine your next steps. Plan the steps on your calendar.
Put up boundaries. Avoid distractions. Delegate. Practice saying no.
Use systems. Identify inefficiencies. Simplify and organize. Create processes where they lack.
You don’t need to tackle it all at one time. You just need to pick one strategy and focus on one little baby step.
So….what’s one of those things you’ve heard before to control your time that you already know to do?
Reply, let me know. I’d love to hear from you.
As for me and my Covid six (er…seven), I’ll be cutting down on carbs, drinking less wine, and working out.
Ok, let’s be serious…I’ll have a little less bread at lunch today. 😜
Hope you had a healthy and happy Thanksgiving!
Xo,
Mridu
