I can rattle off lists of productivity hacks, tools, and tips but they would be useless.
Yup, useless.
Until you are totally clear on what you want.
What do you want personally? What do you want professionally?
What do you really want?
Usually, when I ask people (clients) this question they respond something like this:
“I don’t want to feel so scattered all day.”
“I’m tired of things falling through the cracks.”
“I’m sick of feeling like my family gets the worst of me because I’m so tired by the end of the day.”
Notice that all these responses are about what someone doesn’t want…not what they do want.
And therein lies the problem. The reason you fail.
Until you are crystal clear on exactly what you do want, you won’t reach your goals.
Not being clear on your destination, is like packing your bag, going to the airport, and then deciding where you want to go.
That thinking feels backward – because it is.
Here’s the thing.
You can actually be really productive the way you are operating right now.
Getting things done, checking them off the list, emailing, organizing, creating, doing.
BUT, if you are productive on the things that are not in alignment with what you really want, they don’t matter much.
Ultimately, they don’t move the needle towards your fulfillment or your success.
If you feel like you’re constantly busy but still moving at a snail’s pace when it comes to your personal goals or your professional ambitions, chances are you need a clarity shakedown.
Good news is that you already have everything you need for one.
It requires honesty, an undistracted 20 minutes, and a pen (or a laptop).
Carve out this small block of time to get completely focused on what you really want. Here’s a question that has helped me out with this exercise:
“In one year from now, what would I really want my life to look like?”
You might have images of your heathier skin, your more toned body, your stronger relationships with your kids, your feeling of control at work, your promotion, your organized and serene home, your developed skills, your next degree, your vacations around the world, your painting passion back in your life, your higher revenue or income goal met, or many other inspiring aspects of your life.
What do you really, really want?
Start with your precise goals in mind.
When you passionately embrace these goals, they will guide you throughout the day, week, month and year.
You will have far greater clarity about where to put your time, attention, and focus.
Your productivity will serve you in more meaningful and gratifying ways.
Yes, you will still be busy.
Yes, you will still be checking tasks off the list.
But the quality of those tasks will steer you towards a more rewarding life, one that instills confidence and courage, that you are unashamedly proud of.
It all starts with the end in mind.
So I’d love to hear from you now.
What do you really want?
Post a message below and let me know. It’s the first step to getting you out of chaos and into clarity.
With love and appreciation,
Mridu
