I see it.
That task that sits at the bottom of your list every week.
You add it to your new list as if it will get crossed off this time around.
The fact that it’s been there for so long means there’s some level of fear, dread, overwhelm, panic, boredom, or confusion involved.
Here’s the thing.
It could be a ridiculously small task (which might be even more annoying than the big projects that never go away).
Like, for the longest time I needed to hang paintings in our guest room.
That’s two paintings, four nails, one hammer. Yet, I couldn’t get myself to do it. On the list, week after week after week.
I finally called in a handyman. (Hey, don’t judge!)
I could have let it sit on the list for another six months.
Or I could get help regardless of the task size.
“Do speaking research” was another doozy that had been on my list for pretty much the whole year.
I finally hired someone to do it for me.
Both these examples come down to one idea.
Giving myself permission to let someone else do what I know I COULD.
Otherwise known as Delegation.
Delegation doesn’t always mean paying or hiring someone.
You can delegate to colleagues, family members, and friends.
If you’ve been wanting to clean out your basement and make it an exercise room, here’s how to delegate:
Make it a family affair. Schedule a Saturday where you come together to clear out space and bring in equipment.
If you’ve been wanting to create a procedure or document but can never find the time, here’s how to delegate:
Break it down into 6 sections and assign or request each member of your team to handle one of them.
If you’ve been wanting to write thank you notes to people who’ve encouraged you through your transition, here’s how to delegate:
Ask a friend to watch your kids for two hours so you can go to a coffee shop by yourself and write your heart out.
Not getting support on your procrastinated tasks keeps you bogged down.
Sometimes it lowers your confidence that you’ll ever get to it.
Sometimes it prevents you from adding new goals to your list.
Either way, it’s critical that you look at these lingering tasks, GET HELP and get them off your plate.
Hanging pictures isn’t a bad place to start.
Want to stay accountable? Shoot me a message back letting me know one lingering task that you’ll delegate.
