Motivation is one of the most common topics I work on with my clients.
It’s not that they’re not motivated.
They simply procrastinate on things they don’t want to do, which frustrates them like crazy.
The thing is, we all procrastinate on things we don’t want to do.
So, if you’re waiting for motivation — Stop.
The most productive people don’t rely on it—because motivation is unreliable.
You never really know when it will show up or spend days hiding in the shadows.
Instead of waiting to feel like doing something, use systems to get it done.
Here’s how:
#1: Make it easy to start.
Break big tasks into tiny steps—just five minutes of action builds momentum.
Instead of procrastinating getting to the gym for an hour, walk around the block for 20 minutes.
Drop the all-or-nothing attitude. It only holds you back.
#2: Create accountability.
Get a partner you can rely on.
You’re at least accountable to yourself, but you won’t disappoint a friend.
When others expect results, you’re more likely to follow through.
#3: Create a new routine.
When it’s part of your day, you don’t need to “feel like it.” You just do it.
Like when stretching while your coffee is brewing becomes part of your routine, it becomes something you always do.
Or, when writing down your priorities as soon as you sit down at your desk becomes a habit, you’ll do it every morning.
Motivation is overrated because people think it’s what’s holding them back or propelling them forward.
When, in fact, it’s one tiny action that deserves most of the credit.
Motivation comes after action, not the other way around.
Try this today: Take action before you feel ready.
You will get moving on the thing you’ve been putting off.
You will feel more accomplished.
You will build momentum for tomorrow.
And you’ll stop blaming your results on not being motivated.
