It happened today…and I’m not happy about it.
I look a few days ahead in my calendar and I’ve definitely overdone it.
Too many calls, meetings, projects, and demands.
Too many commitments and yeses to other people and their expectations.
I don’t like what I see.
Our calendars act as a mirror to our lives.
They reflect what we truly value and care about.
Sometimes, we devote too much time to things that don’t align with our goals or make us genuinely happy.
Can you relate?
When you look at your calendar, what do you see?
Do you see time for pursuing your desires? Nurturing your creativity? Giving yourself true downtime?
Or is it dominated by never-ending to-do lists around other people’s needs and wants?
The thing is, you’re actually good at scheduling things that are important to you.
On your calendar, do you have your:
- Work meetings and Zoom calls? Check!
- Doctor’s and hair appointments. Check!
- Kid’s activities and social commitments. Double check!
But what about your personal priorities?
Time to:
- make a healthy meal
- walk outside and listen to a book
- have dinner with your family without electronics and be fully present
- declutter your shoes (maybe handbags too)
- enjoy hobbies like painting, reading, journaling, gardening, or running
- reconnect with old friends
Aren’t they important to you too?
You may think “Yes!” but…
Show me your calendar and I’ll show you your priorities.
Hear me out.
You will not be 90 years old and upset you didn’t spend more hours at work.
Or that you didn’t return more emails.
Or that you didn’t spend more time on IG.
You will wonder how the time went by so fast. And why you didn’t make more of your time count.
When I take a hard look at my calendar it serves as a reminder of the choices I’m making every day.
This helps me be accountable to myself and ensure my actions align with my values.
It’s about reminding myself what and who is truly important.
Spoiler alert: it’s my health, my boys, my hubby, my parents, my mindset, my besties, my love for learning…My dreams.
It’s not about striving for perfection or overwhelming guilt.
It’s about making small, intentional changes to align actions with desires.
If it’s not on your calendar, it won’t happen.
You know your priorities.
But does your calendar reflect them?
