how to stop feeling paralyzed

84 new messages.

Dozens of alerts and texts.

Client folders pile high.

Has anyone walked the dog?!

There’s no doubt you have hundred hundreds of important things to do.

So you take the next natural step.

You do the dishes. Or jump on IG. Or organize your makeup drawer.

Why this? Why now?

All the demands on you, your time, and your energy leave you paralyzed.

You’re unable to take action or make movement on the important things.

So instead of feeling like you’re not doing anything, you’ll do something…even though it’s nonsense. Yes, at this moment, it’s nonsense.

If you’re nodding, you’re not alone. But it doesn’t make it right. Or fulfilling. Or helpful.

In fact, your ability to ignore, pretend, and substitute puts you further behind and makes you more overwhelmed.

Let’s put an end to this.

First, understand WHY you feel paralyzed.

The sheer volume or size of expectations shuts you down.

If you know that volume or size paralyzes you, why not change your relationship with it?

  • What if you BELIEVE “nothing is too big” or “nothing is too much for me to take on?”
  • What if BEFORE you start your day you remind yourself you’ve gotten through big things before?
  • What if BEFORE you open your email or phone you take a deep breath and anticipate dozens of messages?
  • What if you feel prepared for all that’s to come your way?

Like, “Bring it on world. I’ve conquered before and I’ll conquer again.”

Or: “There’s a lot on my growing list. But I keep tackling and get through it.”

Your only objective is to anticipate enormity and be okay with it.

Because if you conquer the feeling of enormity …you bypass the paralysis.

Normalize it.

Normalize the number of emails. The speed of messages. The amount of calls.

Stop trying to fight it. Instead, anticipate it.

It’s like this.

When I don’t expect a ton of changes to a proposal and I get them, my head starts spinning.

But when I do expect a ton of changes to a proposal and I get them, I’m thinking, “okay, just as I thought. Now let me get going on this.”

Right now your demands may not change.

But your response can.

When you anticipate and normalize what’s on your plate you move on.

You take the first step.

You stop procrastinating and stop putting effort into nonsense.

You make big, beautiful, bad-ass progress.

And put an end to the paralysis.
