why smart people procrastinate

Ever sit down to get your work done, stare at five different projects, and then proceed to do nothing?

Used to happen to me All.The.Time.

That’s because an overwhelmed mind shuts down.

Even when you have the best intentions, even when you know what needs to happen – when you feel overloaded, you can’t take the right action.

It’s a survival mechanism.

Our brain shuts down as a protective response to keep us safe when our sympathetic nervous system is overloaded.

Your mind literally disconnects from your thoughts and actions.

So, No, you’re not lazy or a natural-born procrastinator.

You are overwhelmed.

Even with your smarts, drive, and creativity, overwhelm will shut you down.

This means you must figure out a way to get passed it EVEN when you have every reason to feel that way.

Even when you have deadlines lurking and clients demanding and kids begging and your inner mean girl screaming at you.

The truth is, those things may not go away any time soon.

So it’s up to you to learn how to respond.

Dealing with stress and overwhelm is an inside-out job.

I can give you strategies all day long but it has to start with your mental well-being and thoughts.

If you wake up feeling like I’m behind, I’ll never catch up, and everything is out of my control, guess what?

That’s how your day will unfold.

If you wake up feeling like I got this, I know exactly what to focus on next, I know where to put my energy, and I know how to get the right things done.

Guess what?

That’s how your day will unfold.

It’s a practice. It doesn’t happen overnight and you can’t convince yourself of something you don’t believe.

You believe it when you see evidence of it.

There are 5 pieces to get control of all your demands to get you into belief. So you stop getting paralyzed and start getting into motion. They are your:

  • Goals: Clarity on what you really want
  • Schedule: How to reach your goals in the time you have
  • Systems: The simple steps to get you results
  • Team: Where, what, and how to get stuff off of you
  • Boundaries: Personal limits that help you scale

When you start to see even one piece of the puzzle work in your favor, making your life easier, more manageable, and joyful, you start to believe.

You believe it’s possible to wake up with a four-page to-do list and still know exactly how to get the right things done.

You believe it’s possible to end the day feeling accomplished even though more demands pile on.

It’s only then that your brain and your actions fall into alignment.

It’s only then that you know you have everything inside you to take complete control of your circumstances, no matter how overwhelming they seem.

It all starts in the mind.

And it ends in you feeling successful and happy.

All. The. Time.

Are you ready to get there?
