What To Do If You Live With A Slob

Declutter

Holy x$%!

I’m on the heels of school ending and the kids being home for the summer.  I can’t believe how fast the school year has flown.  And that my baby is going to first grade!

End of year is exciting but it also means a TON of extra paperwork coming home.  School projects, reports and collections of artwork are a daily challenge.  I’ve got to admit that I’m pretty lucky that my husband and I are both on board with keeping our lives organized but I am definitely the one dealing with all the papers.  He’s great with all things digital.  Ain’t nothing like having Tech Support at home. 😉

So we balance each other out.  And we keep each other in check for the areas that we each fall short.  Wanna hear how?  Check out my short video and get in on the top 3 ways to keep your family on board with your organizing efforts.

Please take a minute to share your thoughts.  Specifically:

  • Do you have any other strategies to keep your fam on board?>
  • Have any of my strategies worked for you?

Thank you, thank you for your comments, likes and forwards.  Please keep ’em coming!

With love and appreciation,

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU HAVE OPPOSITE STYLES? MY HUSBAND IS A VISUAL PERSON AND NEEDS HIS STUFF OUT TO REMIND HIM. CLUTTER DRIVES ME CRAZY. I AM ALWAYS FILING AND PUTTING THINGS AWAY AND MAKING LISTS. I HAVE A BULLETIN BOARD INSIDE AND ONE OUTSIDE IN HIS GARAGE, BASKETS FOR HIS KEYS AND WALLET AND THINGS FROM HIS POCKETS, A COAT CLOSET “DROP ZONE” ORGANIZER FOR THINGS COMING AND GOING. BUT STILL, THE FREEZER AND REFRIGERATOR FRONTS ARE ALWAYS HAVING MISCELLANEOUS THINGS PUT ON THEM EVEN THOUGH THE SIDES HAVE MAGNETIC CLIPS AND HOOKS AND A CALENDAR TO USE. IT IS A CONSTANT BATTLE TO DE-CLUTTER HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL SURFACES AND KEEP THEM CLEARED. I AM OUT OF IDEAS. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Betty, I hear your frustration! I feel compelled to tell you something you’re probably don’t want to hear. 😉 The truth is, you can only change yourself. You can give the tools and motivation to others to inspire change but ultimately, they have to WANT to change.

I think what you’re doing is wonderful! Making things easy and convenient for your husband and encouraging him to keep organized. One other suggestion I have is to create a “clutter free zone” that NO ONE is allowed to bring anything into. This might be your bedroom and even your favorite chair in your family room. That way you have one area to yourself that you can always do to relax and get away from the clutter. Good luck with it Betty! Keep up your spirit and encouragement! xo, mridu
