5 Mistakes To Avoid This Holiday Season

Spread the love

My holiday cards went out today.  Yippee!  But let me tell you, it was painful.

The process started somewhere back in September when we scheduled our first family photo shoot.  That one got rained out so we re-scheduled for October.  Some big commitment came up on our end so we re-scheduled again in November.  So much for being done three months ahead of time.

By the time I received the re-touched photo I had exactly 11 hours to order our cards before my Groupon expired (for one of the online card services).  So I hauled my butt that night to learn a new software (which I swear deleted my card every time I tried to save it), spent painstakingly long on trying way too many layouts and ended up ordering the first one I tried.  (With just 37 minutes to spare!)

Let’s cut to two weeks ago when the cards finally arrived.  Wasn’t so happy with the print quality but there was no way I was reliving that nightmare again.

So I started working on updating our labels.  I had to send out a dozen emails to get updated addresses which, by the way, is like pulling teeth getting responses.

Then the printing of the labels.  Lets not even go there.  Can’t talk about it.

Next was the stuffing and sealing.  That was an assembly line with my hubby and I.  Neither of us were speaking by the end of that session.

The next night was labeling.  By this point I wanted to trash all the cards.

And last night was the stamps.  My hubby gave me a look of disdain as I handed him his half the pile of cards and stamps.

But they’re out today.   And I can check off one more stressful thing before the holidays.

Why is it that a time that’s meant to be full of merriment, laughter, joy and cheer is so stressful and can cause a whole lot of bad language?  (Well in our house anyway).  Check out today’s short video on how to avoid some big mistakes this holiday season.  Plus, it will make you chuckle.

Thank you so much for watching.  And don’t be shy about commenting on what you’re going to avoid over the holidays….or about my awesome dance moves.  Yeah, I know you’re jealous.

See you next week my sweet. xo,
Mridu

Funny, my card story is so similar but haven’t even begun to get them out. Maybe next year I am doing a New Year’s card??!!! Thanks for the tips. You are a great therapist too!

Yes, on year, I printed 4 difference card version before finding the right one! (not being a perfectionist, but there was cleavage, bad faces, etc). Ok, I officially cant stand living social deals. Agree on the software. Left a lot of money on unused stuff..

LOL! Im laughing at the re-print due to cleavage. 🙂 Thats a new one for me. I once got cards reprinted because it looked like our 1 year old was ready to kill our 4 year old. Seriously, he didnt look like that bad on the screen but once we got the cards we realized how insane he looked.
I know its torture every year but I readily admit I LOVE getting pictures of friends and their kids that we dont get to see often (or ever anymore!) Definitely a way to still feel connected to them. So I guess the insanity will continue for a while… 🙂

its all good insanity. Ravi no longer prints cards until i have inspected them carefully

What a fun post to “meet” you with. I almost wish this didn’t sound so familiar, though! 😉 About the only thing that helps a little is a good Christmas movie and spiked egg nog.

Mridu

Great to meet you too! Yes, spiked ANYTHING usually helps me get through the holidays. 🙂 Checked out your site…looks like we’re a great match. Hope we both “see” more of each other soon. best, mridu

I was laughing at your family photo shoot delays. This year we broke the tradition of not taking a studio family photo because we have not found time. Wanted to do outdoor but each time we are all together the weather was too cold or we could not find anyone to take group photo for us 🙂 Got cards printed and need to schedule time to update/print labels and mail out. Great tips on putting ornaments in a bowl or tall glass jar as decors! Thanks!
