Get Yourself To “Just Do It!”

Spread the love

My friend stopped by yesterday (which was awesome) but of course it was when my entire kitchen counter and island were covered in papers.

We had a problem with our water heater so I had to dig out the paperwork from months ago when we had it worked on.

This forced me to separate my HUGE “file pile” which had been piling up for – dare I admit it? Six months!

Yes, even I put off filing.

It really is one of my most dreaded tasks. But since I HAD to find the piece of paper, I was forced into it. This is how it went down.

The pile and I had a stare-down. For some reason, I thought if I stared at it long enough it would shrink in size.

Needless to say, the pile won. Not only did it seem to get larger the longer I stared, it just stared at me right back – without wincing even once.

Next step, I started to scan. Surely I could find this piece of paper by just fanning through the pile. It would be a bright yellow or green, like all those household receipts are.

Everyone I pulled out was for another issue. Gas. Electric. But no heater.

So I did what any desperate woman would do. I fanned through them again but this time in four mini-piles. Still no luck.

I was defeated. I had to sort through all the papers individually. One by one and then categorizing each to file away.

Low and behold the receipt showed up about three-quarters down into the stack. On a plain white sheet of paper. What type of heating company leaves their receipt on white paper?!

It did however, force me to finish the rest of my filing, and now my “file pile” is no longer.

And I have promised myself, that I’m going to take my own advice and not let my papers get so out of control again.

Please avoid this unnecessary drama and listen to my advice in this weeks video about how to get yourself to “just do it.”

And when you’re done watching please let me know which organizing task you’re gonna start working on – immediately.

Love you so much for watching. I couldn’t provide all this juicy goodness without your support.Β

Here’s to you and your happiness,
xoxo,
Mridu

I will clean the crap off my closet floor before I go to bed tonight. That’s all I have left in me today. But tomorrow I will chip away some more, because you are right on with the baby steps adding up!

Mridu

Love it Brad! You’re my star student! πŸ˜‰ Seriously, great plan. That’s a quick and easy thing to do before you get to bed, that will help you tremendously in the morning. Thanks for sharing! xo, Mridu

Carena

I know what I need to do. Finish the filing cabinet and closet filled with papers. Thanks, still working on it since we moved. Thanks!

Mridu

Perfect! Just keep it in small increments to stay motivated. Good luck Carena! xo, Mridu

I have a U shaped kitchen and two sides of the counter tops look great but the third side is hidden by the fridge when you first walk in…so needless to say over the past year we have junked it up with newspapers, papers to file, overflow of food items and school books…I will go RIGHT NOW and get that side of the counter top cleaned off! Thanks for always being such an inspiration!

Terry

I have a spare bedroom that has items sitting all around that I have gone through and know I want to keep. I need to box them up and put in long term storage.

Just loved the clean up or project to do in5-10 minutes. You are making the best use of time especially if you have energy bursts and just a short time before the next happening. You work best when you take “baby steps” and all of a sudden you are half way home and feel so good about your efforts. Just Do It!! is a great way to say ..get up and get going..

Wow, that’s awesome! So glad I got you inspired. Btw, I know exactly those “hidden spaces” you’re talking about. We ALL have them. πŸ˜‰ xo, mridu

I bet you could get a few boxes filled in 10 or 15 minutes. You’ll probably be done with the whole project in the next couple days. Good for you Terry! Way to take instant action. πŸ™‚ xo, mridu

Martha

Perfect timing! Today, I finally received the new colored hanging files I ordered in August. Now, on to clean my office!

The paper clutter on my desk. Not getting set aside or wait for later everything on the desk has to be dealt with today. I have been doing a few papers at a time and the pile just keeps getting bigger.

Mridu

Sweet!! I need to figure out a way all you great ladies can post your photos on here. I would LOVE to see your “before and afters.” Keep it up Martha! You rock! xo, mridu

Mr. Ulysse Comeau

Thank you I will be ookimg at my first cupboard and see what I have to move.

Ulysse Comeau

I had a very productive day and I owe it to you. I will be working hard in cleaning my apartment. Being retired from the Federal Government and 64 years old. I am very motivated.
Can you give me advice of how I should not be taking snacks between supper and bed time?

Mridu Parikh

LOL!! I wish I knew how to stop snacking too Uly. πŸ˜‰ I guess the best advice I can give on that is to not keep snacks in your home. You know, out of sight, out of mind. πŸ˜‰ SO happy you’ve been so productive. You’re doing fantastic! Thanks for all your support. xo, mridu

I am lovin the “baby-steps.” Here are a couple of my stay organized ‘helpers, tools.’ Just thought I’d share . . . take what you can use and throw the rest away!

I repeat this and have it written on a bright neon pink sticky note strategically placed in my super-secret spots, “Right here, right now, today! Right here, right now, today!”
I also initiated 30 and 15 minute Do-ables. DO-ABLES checked off help me get back on track, re-focus, and help me feel like I REALLY DID get something accomplished. A timer also helps this ADD/ADHD woman not get so OCD! I am ona mission! Thanks Mridu . . . YOU ROCK!

Mridu

Love all these helpers friend! And “Do-ables” are so motivating. The best part is that you’ve found tricks and tips that help YOU. Customizing tools that work best for you is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing!! And I soooo appreciate all your support! XOXO, m
