How To Be Prepared For Rain

Spread the love

I know I should be organized enough to check the weather for the week (or even the day) but it just doesn’t always happen. Inevitably I’ll send my kids to school in shorts and it drops to 30 degrees or I’ve put them in woolens and it ends up being 70.

But probably the most annoying is when I leave the house dressed and primped, (it does happen occasionally!), and within minutes the Rain Gods embark on a taunting storm that lasts all day. No raincoat, no umbrella and an open tote bag later, I’m completely soaked and officially pissed off.  Here are some lessons learned:

1)   Keep a working umbrella in each car…in the front seat. It doesn’t do you any good if you have to get wet on the way to the trunk.

2)   Keep some extra plastic grocery bags in the car. Use them to protect your tote, purse and/or computer bag from getting wet.

3)   Keep an extra pair of socks in the glove compartment. If your feet do get soaked you’ll be so much happier driving home with dry socks.

4)   Keep an old blanket or towel in your trunk. In the event you do get soaking wet, lay it on your seat before driving. There’s nothing worse than thighs chafing leather.

5)   And dare I say it? I do. Keep the $2 compactly folded, plastic yellow poncho, (you and your grandma know exactly what I’m talking about), in your glove compartment too. This is for those torrential emergencies where outfit maintenance simply outweighs fashion rules. Sometimes it’s just not worth the frizz.

Can’t wait for sunshine again!
