How To Manage Your Family’s Schedule

What camp do the kids have this week? When’s my hair appointment? Can my husband make dinner on Thursday night? And what night is “Million Dollar Makeover” on?

Life is so hectic! I personally struggle to keep it all straight…my personal appointments, work commitments, the kids activities, my husbands meetings, family events and other personal stuff like birthdays and vacations. To keep our family life and schedule in check we use Google’s free calendar application, Google Calendar.

Both my husband and I enter in all our commitments on the calendar (separately from our own computers or iPhones); everything from meetings to Dr. appointments to must see tv times. I can not tell you how much a consolidated schedule has changed our lives. I can simply look at our shared calendar and know if know if we already have a commitment on Saturday or if I can treat myself to a mani/pedi. 🙂

Having a shared calendar has taken the guesswork out of our schedules and has made time management much more efficient in the Parikh household!

Here’s a quick video to show you our family calendar and some tips for using it. (You will need Google accounts to use their calendars but shared calendars are also available on Yahoo, Outlook and other commonly used software).

Great idea! We do the same in our family. One that helps our organization (and fewer misunderstandings!) is the invitation feature. I just tell my wife, “invite me to that dinner with the Smiths next Saturday”. Then it’s in my calendar. Or now she has direct access to enter events directly. The downside is that I can’t use any more excuses about not knowing about an event ahead of time!
