3 Organizational Tools that Make Me CRAZY!

Spread the love

Chances are you’ve made a resolution (or two) about getting into shape, taking care of your health or getting your life organized. And for that I commend you.

But if you’re anything like me, I also know that as the year rolls on, those promises can seem daunting. Like, holy moly, there’s a lot I need to get done!

I just want to remind you that it’s okay. It doesn’t all need to be done today. It doesn’t all need to happen right now.

All you have to do is take one small step in the right direction.

Like, make one positive decision about what you’re eating, or one small commitment to take the stairs instead of the elevator, or one small dedication to eliminate a piece of junk mail today.

One small step.

So on that note, I’m taking my first small step in my promise to be more authentic and vulnerable with you, and tell you a few things you might not know about me:

  • I hate coconut but I love fresh coconut juice. Weird, I know.
  • My childhood dream was to be a Solid Gold dancer.
  • I went to South Africa on my honeymoon.
  • I was obsessed with monkeys until my early teens. Like, I begged and begged for a chimp as a pet.
  • I was voted Class Clown in high school. (Ok, you may have guessed that one). πŸ˜‰

TodayΒ I’m going to share three more things with you that I haven’t revealed before: three organization tools that drive me cuh-razy! (And why they make me bonkers).

So let’s start the year off easy, shall we? Here’s what I’d looooove to know from you when you’re done watching.

What organization tools make you cray-cray? (Cuz I know you’ve got ’em!)

Puh-lease, spill it in the comments down there. It really is therapeutic. πŸ˜‰

Wishing you the healthiest, happiest, most hug-filled year ever!

Xo,
Mridu

Well I have the no slip hangers and love them because I hate it when my clothes are on the floor. πŸ™‚ what I don’t like is large hampers. They creep me out filled with dirty clothes. It’s nasty it smells and looks ugly. I have small laundry baskets instead one in each closet of the bedrooms. And I prefer to do laundry daily rather than have it pile up. And it stops the daughter from asking as to the location of her favorite shirt or pants are. If they are not available now its a battle of she has nothing to wear and were both late for work. πŸ™‚

Mridu Parikh

I love your out of the box (or out of the hamper) πŸ˜‰ thinking Susan. And I’m glad you found a solution that works for you and your family. That’s what’s important! Thanks so much for sharing your inspiration. xo, m

Charu

I’m completely with you on the dark boxes. In fact I have been getting rid of them because it’s such a pain, Especially when they are high up! Thank you for the tips.
All my hangars are nonslip, LOL. I guess that is why I’m always struggling in my closet!

Mridu Parikh

I’ve been doing the same! Getting rid of any old dark boxes we have. Smart minds think alike sister! πŸ˜‰ Love hearing from you Charu! Hope all is well. xo, mridu

I can’t stand Lazy Susans. They’re circular and they drive me loony. I have no way to truly organize them with my spices or cans – since they’re circular and a lazy susan is also circular. The things you put on them just don’t fit neatly.

I also don’t like circular plastic containers to put things like grains or oatmeal in. I prefer class rectangular containers. The glass because to me it’s just healthier – no plastic junk getting into my food, and rectangular because they don’t take up as much space.

I use cardboard boxes from crackers, etc. to put in my kitchen cabinets for small things like spices.

I am getting used to using binders, as I can’t find ANY file cabinets in Israel. All of the binders are two-ring binders. They sell a lot of those plastic sheet protectors that already have the holes into which I put in my working papers. So, no hole-punch needed. I use shoe boxes to put in receipts and clear them out every so often. I have important papers in manilla envelopes (those papers that I rarely need to take out) and I will find a nice pretty box to put them into.

I love shelves. In fact, once our apartment is painted, I want to put up a couple of shelves in our tiny office nook for our binders and those pretty boxes so it gives me more room.

Well, that’s about it for now.

Mridu Parikh

LOL!! LOVE it! I don’t know why it makes me so happy to hear what drives people crazy, but it does. Probably because it’s so honest…and so unexpected. Especially when there’s a tool that one person loves and another hates. Like, I love those lazy susans that you detest. Wonderful! πŸ™‚ However, we are on the same page about shelves. I loves me them even though we barely have any in our house.

Thanks so much for your message Leah. Love hearing from you sweet friend.

I too have the no slip hangers and I had never thought about the fuss taking the clothes off and that is true but for small closets its worth the extra pain. I too like clear containers for sure. And completely agree about the binders although I didn’t know why I never followed through putting it in the binder. I have gone though the large hampers too and now like the collapsible ones that you can see through and are shorter. Can’t think of any organizers that I don’t like though. Fun topic

Mridu Parikh

Valerie, if the hangers haven’t bothered you yet, don’t let them bother you now (after seeing this). πŸ˜‰ Glad they are working for you! I see the small hampers are popular in our group. Great idea! Thanks for sharing sweet friend. xo, m

I don’t like regular hampers anymore. Ever since I bought a laundry sorter with 3 canvas bags hanging on a metal frame (which I use for whites, darks, and light colors) laundry time is so much easier. No more sorting clothes into piles in the hallway. My laundry facilities are in the basement, so I just grab which ever bag I want to wash and carry it by the handles easily with one hand leaving my other hand free to hold onto the banister–a necessity for me as I am old and have had two knee replacements. Laundry baskets are too cumbersome to manage with one hand. I sure like my laundry sorter. Love your videoes and tips, Mridu.

Mridu Parikh

I LOVE those laundry sorters! unfortunately I don’t have enough space in my laundry room but I could totally see how those would be heavenly. Thanks for sharing Ruthie!! (And so appreciate all your support). Xo, Mridu

I actually like no-slip hangers, but thanks to you, I now understand why I break about one every two weeks – I keep trying to get stuff off of them without taking the hanger off the rod : ) ! And I thought they were just poorly made or I was getting stronger. I’ll have to try using them the correct way & see if I still like them.

Darci

I also do NOT love the no-slip hangers. It’s bad enough to be doing laundry to then have to wrestle with the hangers in the closet. I keep them all on my husband’s side of the closet where I don’t have to fool with them.
And I don’t own any colored boxes. Never understood the point if they weren’t clear.
Other than that I love all my organizational tools…including my binders:-)

Mridu Parikh

Thanks for your message Darci! Seems like these no-slip hangers are really unpopular…yet there in every store and Organizers keep recommending them. So strange! πŸ˜‰ Best wishes for a great 2016! xo, mridu

OK, my most unfavorite organizers are:

purse organizers; I spent an hour with a friend looking for her car keys in the Dollar store
when they had, in fact, slipped down the side of her “purse organizer.” Never have worked for me.

car trash containers: I try to empty the trash every time I leave the car; had an old
cloth purse (bag type) hanging over a car head rest for trash and someone broke the side window of my car and stole it! I learned the hard way to keep car empty and decluttered at all times.

Love your enthusiasm. Thank you!

Mridu Parikh

I’ve never tried a purse organizer but somehow they’ve always seemed like they were more trouble than they were worth. And now you’ve confirmed it for me! πŸ™‚ And oh my gosh, that’s terrible about your car. Who steals a cloth purse?? So appreciate your message and support Julie! xo, mridu

Rhonda

I find the no-slip hangers work for our daughter’s dance costumes at performances — no more costumes ending up on the floor and pieces getting ruined. I do not like them for my own clothes.

I really dislike using random small boxes and baskets for storing items (especially toys). We have received a bunch of different baskets and bins as gifts over the years (and none match and most do not have lids). I find having too many small containers just encourages our kids to keep more stuff and then you end up buying more storage bins. We are working on a purge of everything so we can determine what we are keeping and the best way to keep our stuff organized.

Mridu Parikh

I can totally see how those hangers would be great for kids costumes. Finally, they make sense for something! πŸ˜‰ Oh, and I completely agree about small, lidless containers. What is the point?? They just make more mess. I LOVE hearing others are irked by these things too. πŸ™‚ Thanks so much for writing in Rhonda. Best wishes for an awesome 2016! xo, mridu

Jennifer

I can’t think of any organization tools that I don’t love. I love them all! For Christmas my sweet husband bought me several clear bins for the refrigerator and some for the pantry. I spent the day after Christmas organizing the kitchen with my new bins. I really am an organizing fanatic, i love to organize when I’m stressed, when I’m bored and whenever.

Mridu Parikh

I just laughed out loud thinking about my hubby buying me organizing bins….ever! πŸ˜‰ haha…I’m pretty sure he’d have no idea where to begin. That really is sweet of your husband. I find organizing very therapeutic too! Plus it can be a lot of fun. Love hearing from your Jennifer! xo, mridu

Gina

I have a love-hate relationship with the 3-tiered shelves on my bathroom vanity. The shelves fit nicely into the corner, which saves tons of space and keeps me from having to put the content in a drawer. What I don’t love is that when I reach for a product on the back of one of the shelves, everything falls over. I just can’t figure out a good organization system to keep my makeup, hair, and face products handy and upright.

Mridu Parikh

Hmmm…I hear your dilemma Gina. Have you thought about using small baskets for the different types of products? Like one for makeup stuff, one for hair stuff and one for face products. (or you can even divide those into smaller categories and get a few more baskets). That way you’d pull a whole basket at a time, which might help prevent other items from falling over. Also, check out baskets with handles. I love the ones from the Container Store (typically used in pantries) but I like to use them anywhere I need to pull stuff out. Hope that helps and thanks so much for your message! xo, mridu
