Ask This And Get Rid Of Clutter

Spread the love

Here’s a riddle for ya.

What’s a four letter “S” word that can either save you a bundle or can lead you to a downward spiral?

Have you guessed it?

It’s S-A-L-E. Β And I bet you are surrounded by them everywhere!

Grocery stores, the mall, Target, and ads pasted all over your Facebook and email accounts. It’s soooo tempting to buy stuff, or even just peek, which usually makes you buy stuff anyway.

Sometimes we buy things we shouldn’t and other times let things go that we should have snatched up.

In my personal attempt to simplify, I’ve been paying much closer attention to what I bring in – sale or not.

And today I’m going to share with you the number one question to ask yourself before you pick up your next bargain.

When you’re done watching let me know a place you can’t resist the urge to to pass up a good deal. (Mine is the Dollar Bin at Target!)

I so appreciate you for tuning in. “See” you again next week.

With love,
Mridu

Great tip, Mridu. I live in a place – Hot Springs Village, AR – where there are unbelievable estate sales that I am addicted to. But I’m going to ask your question “would I pay full price?” next time I go to one.
I also find it helpful, looking at something beautiful or amazingly inexpensive, to use the mantra, “Thank you – (appreciating its beauty) and good-bye”. That way I acknowledge how lovely it is, but I don’t have to own it.
Fun that you are next door in TN. We have relatives in Nashville.
Thanks for all your fun and helpful videos!

Mridu

I love what you said about being able to appreciate something…without having to own it. That is so true! The beauty and/or memory of that item still lives on…even if it’s not in your own house! πŸ˜‰
Please feel free to reach out to me if you make it over to Nashville. I love connecting with fans (now friends πŸ˜‰ in person!
Thanks for all your support and for your inspiring comment. xoxo, mridu

I enjoy shopping somewhat but sometimes it seems like an activity itself and turns out to be counterproductive. Not only am I wasting time (=using precious time when I could be doing something else) but also wasting money (=buying things just because they are “a great deal” when I don’t really need them (=wasting precious space storing these “great deals”). I have to acknowledge the situation and make it a priority NOT to go to a store unless I really need something.. And when I do go shopping, just stick to the plan and not to purchase anything else, no matter what the discount is.. Thanks for great tips!

Mridu

Those are fantastic points that I know everyone can benefit from. Thanks Maria! I can tell you’re really committed to more intentional shopping, which is wonderful. I agree, don’t go to a store unless you have a list and know exactly what you want. (Except for the occasional treat for yourself! πŸ˜‰ Very best, mridu

We used to buy bargains at Big Lots and Tuesday Mornings… Oh yeah and Kohl’s. Since I’ve been decluttering, I don’t want to bring more stuff into the house. I will remember your simple question… Would I buy it at full price? thank you!

Mridu

My weakness is Target! Seriously have to discipline myself when I’m in there, which is especially tough when the kids are in tow.
Good for you Terry for recognizing this trouble area and not wanting to bring more unnecessary clutter into your home. πŸ™‚ Hope “the question” really helps! xo, mridu

Tracy

I have never heard this question for making a decision while shopping! I am so going to use this. It is so great for those decision making moments on items. Some sites tell you to wait and come back to it but then you miss the sale. This will allow me to really help for items I want to save on but also need or want not just buying for the sale. Thank you so much, this is an awesome way to decide.

Tracy, I’m SO glad you found this tip helpful! And I so appreciate you letting me know. πŸ™‚ Happy (intentional) shopping! xo, mridu

I have the worst time passing anything up for the Grand kids, they live with me so I am still making work for myself and I know they are overwhelmed by the STUFF. Walmart is the worst and to be honest I haven’t found one thing I would pay full price for , with your good advice I think I’ll stop and teach the little ones we don’t need so much stuff either. In the end they really only want me to read a story or teach them to make cookies or do a craft. Come to think of it I might be the only toy they really play with consistently. What a compliment! If we unburden ourselves of some of this stuff, I won’t have to spend so much time picking up these toys and can spend more time with my little fans. Thanks Jamie

Jamie, what insightful thoughts. Thank you for sharing. I love that you say that maybe your grandparents only need to play with YOU. SO TRUE! Your love and attention will bring them more joy than any plastic toy! They’re lucky to have you! xo, mridu
