The Easiest Way To Declutter

Spread the love

Yesterday was the first full day of school for both my boys. So as you can imagine I’m sitting here with my feet up sipping a margarita. (Yeah right, I wish!)

Instead, I’m nesting.

I feel like a crazy lady ransacking the kids’ rooms – trashing their never used party favors, recycling their barely touched coloring books and donating their once appreciated camp shirts.

Beware random sock, unexpected game piece or deflated ball. I’m a Mom On A Mission today and I’m ruthless.

Clutter be gone! Poof! It magically disappears, right?

Uh, not really.Β

Usually it ends up in a pile at the bottom of the staircase and another pile on the family room floor. Maybe one in the laundry room too.

And as each member of the family walks in, they see something they can’t live without, knock over the pile (because of course their critical must-have is at the bottom), and take it back to their room.

After a few days the piles don’t exist. The once collected clothes, shoes, books and games are strewn across our home, creating clutter all over again.

And eventually I shove whatever’s left lingering into a closet or drawer to deal with later.

It’s so deflating is it to have such great intentions, finally take action, only to never have really made a dent at all!

If you can relate, be sure to watch today’s vid on how to avoid this time and energy wasting scenario. It’s the simplest tool that you can put in place in under five minutes…maybe even two!

When you’re done watching, please let me know where you’re going to keep your donating bin so you can inspire others….and look like a rockstar in the process!

As always, I can’t thank you enough for watching and sharing with people you care about.

Until next week, live happy and organized!
xoxo,
Mridu

P.S.Β I’m putting the finishing touches on “Time Master”, my time management workshop that will make you wildly productive and outrageously balanced. Yes, it’s that good! πŸ˜‰Β If you haven’t signed up for my emails below, be sure to get on it right now so you’ll hear all about it next week.

Hi Mridu!! I love your sense of humor and all your helpful organizing advice! Since finding your website, I’ve implemented many of your ideas!! Thank you!!

I have a “give away” box that I keep in my den and take it to the local freecycle area when it’s full. I’m doing a major life purge due to a divorce so I use this box A LOT!!

We use a black garbage bag so when it’s full, the hubby just has to tie it up and take it to good will. But I’ll move it out of sight into a closet. Great idea πŸ™‚

Hey Diane! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my videos. πŸ™‚ So great that you have a “giveaway” box already. It’s so helpful! Hope to hear from you again soon. best, mridu

Damn girl! You are SO on it! Yes, I need to practice what I preach and use the black bag idea more often too. Especially for the kids stuff because if they see anything I’m hauling off they immediately take it back to their room..LOL xo, mridu

Lately I have been keeping a tubby in the trunk of my car. So after I get done cleaning and pulling items out that I want to donate, I immediately put the items in the tubby, black bag and all. That way it is out of my house. I run errands on one of my days off and I have a goodwill close, so I make a quick stop each week and I have the rule, once it leaves my house, it doesn’t get brought back in.

That’s a fantastic system Tracy! I think I’ll be stealing that one. πŸ˜‰ Thanks for sharing! xo, mridu
