This Always Wins.

Spread the love

Remember when you were a kid and you wanted to do something and you would just…do it?

I wanted to be a “Solid Gold” dancer (yes I know I’m dating myself). So my bestie and I choreographed dances until one in the morning.

I wanted to become an artist so I doodled and drew whenever I had the chance.

I wanted to become a poet so I grabbed a pen and paper and wrote “Mark the Shark,” my first piece of literary genius. 😉

Of course my fancy changed every other month, but there was really no reason I didn’t think I couldn’t do it. I mean all I had to do was dream it up, say it out loud, and then start doing that thing.

I miss those days.

I’m not sure where along the way I went from “I can do that!” to “I’m not ready for that.”

Or “Lets just try it” to “It won’t turn out right.”

Maybe you can relate?

Did you start your journey in a fearless and faithful world only to find yourself in a self-sabotaging place of self- doubt and over-planning?

Stuck in wanting to make things perfect?
Postponing decisions?
Waiting for the right time?
Worried about how things will work out?

It’s a perpetual state of procrastination. A lack of movement that not only keeps you paralyzed but buried in over your head.

Good news. There is a way out.

Embrace imperfection.

Bear hug it.
Grasp it tightly.
Cling to it.
Cradle it.
Swaddle it.
Freakin’ love it!!

But whatever you do, do not surrender it.

Don’t believe you can’t get started until things are perfect.
Until you’re sure.
Until you’re ready.
Until it’s just right.

IMPERFECTION ALWAYS WINS.

It’s imperfection that gets you to finally trash the papers and clip the ones you need to keep.

It’s imperfection that gets you to finally sort your linens (not by color and fabric) but by keep and donate.

It’s imperfection that gets you to finally use a sticky note for a label instead of a complicated label maker.

It makes you take action.
It gets you to try.
It gets you closer to your goals.

And when those things happen other magical fairy dust is sprinkled into your life.

You feel more confident.
You build momentum.
You are proud of yourself.

And you recognize perfection took control of your life in ways you didn’t even know.

Perfection keeps you stuck. And from my experience, I can tell you stuckness is a terrible place to live.

HINT: Another word for Perfection is Procrastination. (Just an excuse for you to put off what you really could be doing).

So decide today if you want to keep putting off, piling up and feeling overwhelmed.

Or decide that you want to win, and imperfectly do the “thing.” The thing that’s been holding you back, keeping you in your zone of stuckness.

WINNERS ARE IMPERFECT BECAUSE IMPERFECTION ALWAYS WINS.

If you’re thinking “yes, I’m tossing perfection to the side and moving on with XYZ project, task or goal”….please join me over in the comments so I can cheer you on.

You are fully capable to stop making excuses and to take the action. And most importantly, you are ready to rediscover your childhood experience too.

To Imperfectly Moving Forward!

Dear Mridu,
Thank you for always being a positive force in our lives. Women often get bogged down with all the “things to do” that we forget who we were or are. I thank you for reminding me.
